THE FIT I'M LOOKING FOR

Human-centered design/research work that allows me diverse opportunities to contribute in areas like behavior change research, design and testing; and cognitive workload solutions like decision support and debiasing. My product family interests include consumer products and industrial interfaces that incorporate behavior change design, sensation/perception/cognition-driven usability, and motivation science to improve experiences for people at work, at home, and  wherever they seek positive change.

BEHAVIOR CHANGE

I currently thrive in the meaningful work of behavior change design - creating and testing motivational UX features for residential electric utility consumers to optimize their energy use. This comes after iterating services I offered in a wellness business to the point where clients owned the term "Badass Crew" (eventually emblazoned on the back of our shirts). I saw so much change from seemingly small tweaks in program components that I trekked across the country to a grad program to dig into what helps us make changes that are good for us. My Master of Science in Psychology: Human Factors from the University of Idaho took me there, and my continued workshops, conferences, and webinars with leaders in the field keep me fueled to make more change for myself and others.

ADVOCACY

Another drive that directs my life and work is advocacy. Where I sense inequity or underheard voices, I bring awareness to it and work to bring change. From advocating for pregnant women faced with plant environments not designed for them, to creating an environment and activities for kids on the autism spectrum in my wellness studio, I do the work of change-making where change is most needed.

GROWTH MINDSET
You can bet on me always learning and applying new things, and the latest on the list is snowboarding. And I'm always working on mountain biking skills. But alongside that there's the course I'm taking in Human Centered Design in Nuclear Systems. And Duolingo French. And of course, all the valuable software tools I've added to my toolbox: Adobe XD, Figma, Photoshop, Lookback.io, SPSS, R, Miro, WordPress, Android Studio, Qualtrics, and more.

WRITING

I am a published writer, blogger, web content writer, and former freelance editor - skills that come in handy in UX content development. Writing for me is both a talent and a passion, a highly effective means of providing what's needed to overcome obstacles. I specialize in writing that presents new takes on how we see the world - reframings that empower.

TEAMS AND LEADERSHIP

In project teams and on nonprofit boards, I am known for seeing the gaps and seeing what fits best. I can put things into the categories they belong at the level they belong, and/or identify the things that belong but are missing. Recent examples: identifying different digital motivational strategies for continuous vs. one-off actions, acknowledging overlooked strengths in a team and distributing responsibilities based on them, and easily seeing and averting potential confounds in user testing.

Curiosity is my superpower, and I can't wait to see what comes my way next, and in what new ways I can contribute.
